Met Éireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for counties on the west coast of Ireland.
The warning will bring windy conditions "with strong and gusty southwest winds" to Kerry, Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo.
Potential impacts include wave overtopping, loose objects displaced, some fallen trees and branches, and difficult travelling conditions.
The warning will be in place from 4pm until 10pm on Sunday.
More generally, Friday will be a mostly dry day for much of the island with spells of sunshine and scattered showers, mainly affecting Munster, and parts of Connacht and north Ulster.
The prediction notes: "The showers will be a wintry mix of rain, hail and sleet, with a little snow possible over higher ground and a chance of isolated thunderstorms."
Temperatures will reach highs of 7C.
By contrast, once the sun goes down, they will fall to lows of -2C overnight on Friday with scattered wintry showers continuing mainly for northern and western parts, though some showers will extend further eastwards at times.
As a result, Saturday will start very cold with frost, ice and fog slow to clear, Met Éireann says.
It adds: "Cloud will build from the west through the afternoon with outbreaks of rain and drizzle following tomorrow evening. Highest temperatures of 4C to 8C."
Sunday is where things will start to turn a bit milder. This is due to rain spreading across the country on Saturday evening, with temperatures falling no lower than 3C generally overnight.
Sunday will be windy with widespread outbreaks of rain continuing, turning heavy in places and a potential for hail. Temperatures will reach up to 12C in parts.
