Irish and British barristers voice opposition to UK plan to reduce number of jury trials
David Lammy wants to limit jury trials to only the most serious offences, and those with a likely sentence of more than three years in prison.
Barristers from across Ireland and Britain have said they are “deeply concerned” by the British government’s plans to curb the number of jury trials.
The “Four Bars”, the bodies representing barristers across the Republic of Ireland and the UK, have weighed in on the reforms being spearheaded by British deputy prime minister David Lammy.
