Galway jockey Paul Kavanagh, 20, has died following a car accident on Christmas Eve.

The collision occurred at around 2am on Wednesday on the N20 road in Limerick.

Kavanagh had been part of Enda Bolger’s team for two years.

Bolger paid tribute to Kavanagh, describing him as “a credit to his parents”.

“We’re devastated,” said Bolger. “He was the most polite, well-mannered and well-brought-up young man we ever had anything to do with.

"He was a credit to his parents. I can’t imagine what they are going through.”

Gardaí appealed to anyone who was travelling on the N20 in the Bruree area between 1.40am and 2.15am to contact them.

They have also appealed for any camera footage that may exist of the incident.
