The days over the festive period will be merry and bright and also dry, according to Met Éireann, but there will be no White Christmas this year.
It will be cold, but the forecaster is predicting glad tidings as there will be mainly dry and settled conditions throughout the Christmas and new year period.
Wednesday will be a dry day that will see spells of sunshine develop, and temperatures hit highs of 9C.
On night, as Santa prepares to deliver gifts to children across the country, Met Éireann said he will have "favourable conditions" for the trip around Ireland.
Met Éireann said: "It's going to be a cold, dry night with mostly clear skies. Lowest temperatures of -2C to 2C generally, with a fairly widespread frost and some icy patches, in a mostly light east to northeast or variable breeze.
"It'll be less cold and frost-free though along the east coast, where winds will be mostly moderate and with lowest temperatures there of around 2C to 5C."
will see any lingering frost clear, leaving a dry, bright day with plenty of sunshine for most.
It will be cold, with temperatures of 4C to 8C expected and Met Éireann advise that it will feel cold "especially along the east and south coast with the added wind chill from fresh and gusty easterly winds there".
It will be very cold on Christmas night as temperatures fall to lows of -3C, but it will be mostly clear.
Friday, or , will see "another dry day with variable amounts of cloud and good sunny spells are likely once again".
Met Éireann said temperatures will reach highs of 8C during the day, but this will fall back to -1C on Friday night.
It will be "dry and cold with a mix of cloud and clear spells" on Friday night, while there will also be "some patchy frost in sheltered parts".
Looking ahead to the weekend, Met Éireann said it will "continue cold and dry with variable cloud and spells of sunshine".
High pressure will continue to dominate next week in the lead-up to the new year and probably beyond into next weekend, the forecaster added. "So the dry cold conditions will prevail, with variable cloud cover and some sunny spells."
