Man arrested in connection with alleged assault at Midlands Prison released without charge

A man arrested in connection with an alleged assault at the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise has been released without charge.

Gardaí were investigating an assault causing harm at the prison on December 6.

A man in his 20s arrested earlier on Tuesday was released without charge, and returned to the prison.

Investigations are ongoing, a Garda spokesman said.

It is understood the arrest is related to ongoing Garda investigations into the arson attack in Edenderry, Co Offaly, that killed four-year-old Tadgh Farrell and his grand-aunt Mary Holt.
