€1.27m in contraband seized across Ireland as gardaí arrest driver at Dublin Port

Revenue has seized 60kg of herbal cannabis worth more than €1.17m as part of a series of operations in Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare Europort over the past week. 

In total, contraband valued at over €1.27m was recovered between November 24 and 28 across multiple intelligence-led and risk-profiling operations.

Revenue said 37kg of herbal cannabis worth €740,000 was intercepted at Dublin Port after a vehicle arriving from Cherbourg was stopped with the assistance of detector dog Alfie. 

The driver was arrested by gardaí and investigations are ongoing.

Across the week’s searches, officers also seized:

• 233g of Butane Honey Oil, worth an estimated €4,660 
• 250.2g of synthetic cannabinoids, valued at more than €5,000 
• Other illicit drugs, valued at over €11,650 
• Tobacco products, worth €2,625, representing a potential tax loss of €1,905 
• More than 380 litres of alcohol, valued at over €3,515, with a potential tax loss of €1,950 
• 409 counterfeit items, worth more than €73,050 
• 58 weapons 

The additional herbal cannabis and drug consignments detected during the week originated from the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, the UK and France and were addressed to locations nationwide.

Detector dogs Ciara, Sam and Alfie assisted in the parcel searches.

Revenue said the counterfeit goods were seized after rights holders confirmed intellectual property infringements. All investigations remain ongoing.

The agency said the operations form part of its continuing efforts to tackle smuggling and shadow-economy activity. It urged anyone with information about such activity to contact its confidential line on 1800 295 295.
