The umbrella will be needed this weekend as Ireland faces thundery weather to begin December.

Temperatures have ranged from 15C to 0C in recent days, with mixed conditions across most of the island.

However, over the next two days things will change, according to Met Éireann.

Friday began wet and those conditions will persist for most of the day.

Met Éireann says it will be a “blustery day with widespread showers” that will turn heavy at times, with the possibility of hail and isolated thunderstorms.

Temperatures will reach highs of 10C before nightfall, when showers will continue, with hail and thunder again likely.

Frost is possible as temperatures drop to 0C.

Saturday will start cloudy with scattered showers moving down from the north.

After more morning showers, brighter spells will develop later in the day in brisk conditions.

Saturday evening will be cold with scattered showers and temperatures as low as –2C in parts.

This will lead to further frost on Sunday morning, but the rain will stay away early on. Met Éireann says there will be bright “winter sunshine” to begin Sunday.

However, they warn that conditions will remain unsettled into next week.
