A woman remains in critical condition after an attacker poured petrol or another accelerant on her and set her on fire at a house in Dublin.

She was attacked after she answered the door of a property in Oak Downs, off Boot Rd in Clondalkin, yesterday morning at around 10.10am.

The assailant poured petrol on her and then set her alight before fleeing on a bike, gardaí believe.

The vehicle may have been an e-bike, according to garda sources.

The woman was taken to Tallaght Hospital, where she remains in critical condition with severe burns to her face and body.

A man was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following the attack at the suburban home, in what is considered a quiet residential area.

Gardaí believe the attack was targeted and may be drugs-related. The scene remains sealed off for a technical examination, and officers are reviewing CCTV from the area.

A senior investigating officer is leading the inquiry, and an incident room is operating at Clondalkin Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.

Justice Jim O’Callaghan said he was shocked by the “horrific attack”.

“I have been briefed on the attack by the gardaí, and I join with them in appealing to anyone with information to come forward so that the perpetrator of this vicious attack can be brought to justice,” he said.

Anyone who was in the Oak Downs area between 9.30am and 10.20am yesterday and who may have video footage, including dashcam footage, is asked to share it with investigators.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Clondalkin Garda station on (01) 666 7600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
