A father-of-three who suffered multiple stab wounds in the driveway of a Cork home on Sunday morning will be buried on Friday.

Mark O’Connell, 38, had called to a house in Hollyhill where he got into an altercation with a man known to him.

He was stabbed in the chest and shoulder area, it is understood.

Although emergency services were called to the scene in Hollyville and Mr O'Connell was rushed to hospital, he was later pronounced dead.

His body will repose at Jerh O’Connor's Coburg St Funeral Home in Cork City on Thursday from 5pm to 6pm.

His requiem Mass will be held at 11.30am on Friday in the Church of the Resurrection, Farranree.

His funeral will follow afterwards to St Catherine’s Cemetery, Kilcully.

Mr O'Connell was the father of Katlyn, Jake, and Seán, partner of Samantha, and brother of Philip.

He is predeceased by his mother Ann.

An autopsy by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster found that Mr O'Connell died a violent death.

A 55-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, but subsequently released without charge on Monday night.

Gardaí will prepare a file for the DPP on the case.
