Five young people dead following two vehicle crash in Dundalk 

The incident happened on the L3188 in Gibstown, Dundalk shortly after 9pm.

Five young people have died and three were injured in a horror crash in Louth last night.

Three men and two women aged in their 20s were killed in the two vehicle collision on the L3188 in Gibstown, Dundalk shortly after 9pm.

One of those who was injured was in the same car. The other two people injured were in the other vehicle.

Gardaí have said the deceased were from Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan and Drumconrath in Co Meath, with one of the women from Scotland.

The L3168 between the N52 and the R171 remains closed for gardaí to carry out a technical examination of the scene. 

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Superintendent Charlie Armstrong, from Dundalk garda station, said all five young people who died in a road crash in Co Louth were in the same vehicle.

He said gardaí are investigating all the circumstances of a fatal road traffic collision on the L3168 just outside Dundalk.

He said: "Yesterday evening just after 9pm there was a serious road traffic collision involving two vehicles, a Volkswagen Golf and a Toyota Land Cruiser.

"Five occupants of the Volkswagen Golf, three males and two females all in their early 20s, were deceased at the scene.

"One occupant of the Volkswagen Golf, a male in his 20s, was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, for treatment of serious non-life-threatening injuries.

"The two occupants of the second vehicle, a male and a female, were also taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, for medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries."

He praised and thanked his garda colleagues and the other emergency service who attended the scene.

"The scene was very difficult, in adverse weather conditions and the professionalism shown by all first responders and the care and respect shown to the five deceased was exemplary," he said.

"This tragedy, with the loss of 5 young adults will have a deep impact on families and local communities in Carrickmacross, Dromconrath and in Scotland. This is a shocking, devastating event for these families, their communities and the community here in Dundalk."

Taoiseach Micheál Martin paid tribute to the victims of the collision. 

"I am numbed and shocked at the horrific road crash that has led to the loss of five young lives in Dundalk, County Louth," Mr Martin said. 

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of these young people, and those injured.

"We also think of our first responders, who worked so professionally in truly devastating circumstances," he added. 

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling on the L3168, Ardee Road, Dundalk, Co. Louth between 8.30pm and 9.15pm on the night of Saturday 15th November, 2025 are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

The latest crash brings to 157 the number of people killed on the roads so far this year. That is 10 more than in the same period last year.
