Man, 80s, dies after being struck by car in Galway

A pedestrian in his 80s his died after he was struck by a car in Co Galway on Friday night.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which happened at Peake on the N83 in Loughgeorge shortly after 11.30pm.
The pedestrian, a man in his 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The local coroner has been notified, and the deceased has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway, where an autopsy will take place in due course.
The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was brought to hospital for assessment. His injuries are not described as life-threatening.
The scene of the crash is preserved pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Traffic diversions are currently in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users with camera footage who were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
