More than €10m paid to victims of violent crime to compensate for financial losses

More than €10m was paid out to victims of violent crime last year to compensate them for losses suffered as a result of their injuries, while the number of new claimants soared by 40%.

The latest annual report of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal reveals a total of 203 awards were made to claimants last year under the scheme for a combined sum of €10.015m — up from €7.5m in 2023.
