Gardaí are investigating after the bodies of a man and a young girl were discovered at a house in Dublin on Saturday night.

Gardaí and emergency services personnel say they were called to a residence in the Cappagh area of Finglas shortly before 8pm.

The bodies of the deceased - an adult male and a female child - remain at the scene. The location has been preserved pending a forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The local Coroner has been notified and the services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner that autopsy examinations "will be arranged in due course", and the results of these examinations will assist gardaí "in determining the course of the investigation".

"No additional information is available at this time," the spokesperson added.
