Scrambler bike driver, 20s, seriously injured after hitting street light pole

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

The driver of a scrambler bike is in a serious condition in hospital following a crash in Dublin. 

The incident occurred on Sunday, at approximately 5pm on the Royal Canal Way in Dublin 15, when the driver of the bike, a man aged in his 20s, collided with a street light pole.

He was taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, and has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

"No other injuries were reported," said a Garda spokesperson. "A technical examination of the area has since been conducted."

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

In particular, gardaí are appealing to pedestrians on the Royal Canal Way between the M50 Aqueduct and Ashtown Rail Station to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Ashtown area between 4.45pm and 5.15pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
