Man left in critical condition after motorcycle and car crash in Co Mayo

A man is in critical condition after a collision between a car and a motorcycle in Co. Mayo on Sunday.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the scene on Castlebar Road, Newport, at around 4.50pm.

A garda spokesperson said a man in his 60s was arrested as part of the investigation.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, suffered serious injuries at the scene.

He received emergency treatment before being taken to Mayo University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

"No other injuries have been reported," the spokesperson added.

The road was closed for a technical examination but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They are asking road users with camera footage, including dash-cam, who travelled on Castlebar Road, Newport, between 4pm and 5pm on Sunday, August 17, 2025, to provide it to investigating gardaí.
