Property is the primary source of wealth for households, with almost half (46%) of gross wealth coming from the value of a person’s home.

The top 10% of Irish households are enjoying net wealth of more than €1m, but the bottom 10% have less than €2,400, new research has shown.

The Central Statistics Office’s survey on household finances and consumption found the median net wealth of households increased by almost €100,000 between 2018 and 2023, from €159,700 to €256,900, driven primarily by increased property prices.
