Irish man drowns in Malta seaside town
Police, the Civil Protection Department, and the Armed Forces were all called to the site.
An Irish man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Malta.
The man, aged 76, had been swimming in St Julian’s, a popular holiday destination, when he got into difficulty.
According to local reports, police were called near Cavalieri Hotel in St Julian’s Bay, at approximately 12.45pm on Tuesday.
Police, the Civil Protection Department, and the Armed Forces were all called to the site.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene after receiving medical assistance by emergency services.
An inquiry into the incident has been launched.
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.
"As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases."
