The father of Irish actor Colin Farrell has passed after battling a long illness.

Eamon Farrell, aged in his 80s, passed peacefully on Wednesday in the loving care of his family at Beaumont Hospital.

Late of Glasnevin and formerly of Castleknock, Mr Farrell was the former proprietor of Health Matters and a former footballer for Shamrock Rovers.

He is survived by his "beloved" wife Eileen, and his children Colin, Catherine, Claudine, and Eamon.

"Sadly missed by Rita, step-children William, Keith, Sandra, Aidan, Deborah, Karl, Ciarán and Gary, grandchildren James, Ellen, Henry, Stella and Oscar, in-laws and partners, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends," his death notice reads.

He will be reposing at his home in Glasnevin on Friday evening with his funeral Mass to take place on Saturday.
