Waterford bus driver charged with dangerous driving causing death of teenagers on e-scooter

Gilbert Collins and Avu Idris died after the accident involving a bus.

A man in his 40s has appeared before Waterford District Court charged in connection with an e-scooter crash which claimed the lives of two teenagers.

On June 27, 2024, gardaí responded to a collision between a bus and an e-scooter on the Cork Road, Waterford, at 2:10am.

Gilbert Collins, 15, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 17-year-old friend Avu Idris was pronounced dead later that day at University Hospital Waterford.

Adrian Doyle, 42, who had been driving the bus, appeared before Judge Kevin Staunton in Waterford District Court.

Mr Doyle, of Ard Glas, Abbey Road, Ferrybank, was charged with dangerous driving causing death.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed a trial on indictment.

Mr Doyle will appear before Waterford District Court on May 6 for production of the book of evidence.

Bail was approved by Judge Kevin Staunton on the accused's own bond of €300.
