Pedestrian, 70, dies after collision in Co Laois
A pedestrian has died following a collision in Co Laois on Sunday evening.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the N80 at Crannagh in Stradbally last night.
The incident, involving a pedestrian and a car, occurred at approximately 10.45pm.
The pedestrian, a man aged in his 70s, was pronounced deceased a short time later and was removed to Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.
An autopsy examination will take place in due course.
"The female driver of the car, aged in her 30s, was not injured.
"The road is currently closed pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators this Monday morning," said a Garda spokesperson.
Garda are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N80 at Crannagh, Stradbally, Co Laois between 10.30pm and 11pm yesterday, 23rd February 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

The road death is the second to occur in Laois over the weekend after a five-year-old boy was killed on Saturday.
Aaron Hussain died after being struck by a car in the Kilminchy area of Portlaoise.
The boy was fatally injured and removed from the scene to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise in a serious condition. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
