Man, 20s, in serious condition in hospital after Cavan assault

A man in his 20s is in a serious condition in hospital after he was assaulted in Cavan on Friday night.  

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses to the incident, which happened on Main Street in Cavan Town shortly before midnight. 

The victim, a man in his 20, was taken to Cavan General Hospital and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where is current condition is understood to be serious. No other injuries were reported.

A 17-year-old male has since been arrested in connection with the assault. He is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the Louth/Cavan/Monaghan Division.

Gardaí have urged anyone who was in the Main Street area of Cavan Town between 11 pm and midnight on Friday night/Saturday morning to contact them.
