Murder investigation underway as man, 30s, dies following stabbing in Dublin city centre

A murder investigation has been launched following the fatal stabbing of a man in his 30s in Dublin city centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It is understood the incident, which took place at around 3am in the vicinity of South Anne Street/Duke Lane Upper, occurred following a row between two groups of people out socialising.

A man in his 30s, who was injured during the incident, was subsequently taken by ambulance to St James's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardaí say a second man in his 30s, who was also injured during the incident, is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.

A number of areas around the street are currently preserved and a technical examination of the scene is taking place.

The Office of the State Pathologist and local coroner have been notified.

On Saturday afternoon, gardaí confirmed that a murder investigation had commenced and a that Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed.

Investigating gardaí are urging anyone who may have been present in the vicinity of South Anne Street/Duke Lane Upper, Dublin 2 between 2:45am and 3:30am this morning to come forward.

They say they are are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have information about what took place as well as anyone with "any mobile phone footage recorded at the relevant locations, and any road users who may have camera footage and were travelling in the area or in the vicinity of Dawson Street and St Stephens Green at the time."
