Garda probe after death of baby in Co Longford home

The baby was found at a residential property in Abbeylara.

Results of an autopsy carried out on an infant found deceased at a house in Co Longford are not being released for “operational reasons”.

The child, who is believed to be a few weeks old, was found unresponsive at a property in Abbeylara on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

The alarm was raised, and emergency services attended the scene.

A garda spokesperson said a “deceased baby was removed to the mortuary at Crumlin Children’s Hospital where a post-mortem examination was carried out by the State Pathologist”.

The autopsy took place on the baby on Monday and gardaí said they will not be releasing the results.

The statement continued “Results of the post-mortem are not being released for operational reasons, however the focus of An Garda Síochána now is the preparation of a file for the Coroner’s Court only”.

"Investigations are ongoing," a garda spokesperson said.
