Government considering interim measure to allow prison officers work past 60
Prison officer Micheál O’Sullivan is contesting his forced retirement from the Midlands Prison.
A “transitional” arrangement is now being considered by the Department of Justice to allow prison officers due to retire at 60 to continue to work before the law changes to increase the retirement age to 62.
A number of prison officers are pushing to extend their retirement age to 62 before the legislative changes come into force.
