Fourth person arrested in connection with Dublin assault which left Canadian tourist hospitalised

Body of a man discovered in Waterford - Garda witness appeal

A man, aged in his 20s, has been arrested in connection with an assault with occurred in Dublin on Sunday.

The assault occurred on O’Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street, Dublin 1, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The violent assault left a Canadian tourist, aged in his 40s, in a serious condition in hospital.

The man is currently being held at a Garda Station in Dublin under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

This is the fourth arrest made by gardaí as part of this investigation.

A man, aged in his 30s, who was arrested on Monday, has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the DPP.

The injured man, a tourist aged in his 40s from Canada, remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal to any individuals who were in the Cathal Brugha Street area, near the Living Room Bar, between 12:40am and 1am, and any individuals who were on O'Connell Street Upper near the Spar Shop, Funland and Tourism Office, opposite the Spire, between 12:40am and 1am on Sunday morning, to contact them.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: "Anyone who has camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

"Investigations are ongoing."
