Man charged after allegedly brandishing knife near school in Dublin City centre

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.

Gardaí have charged the man who was arrested in the Parnell Square area of Dublin City centre on Tuesday morning for allegedly brandishing a knife near a school. 

He is understood to be known to gardaí for previous incidents concerning his mental health and concerning behaviour in public.

He remains in Garda custody and is due to appear before Criminal Courts of Justice, Court Number 1, on Wednesday at 10.30am.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The man is aged in his 30s and is understood to be Irish.

The incident occurred near where a shocking knife attack took place outside a school last November, which left a five-year-old girl and a creche worker in critical condition, and two other young children injured.
