Man, 60s, killed in workplace incident in Longford

A man has died following a workplace accident in Co Longford.

The man, aged in his 60s, was working on a closed section of the Athlone Road in Ballymahon when he was hit by a works vehicle after 7pm yesterday evening.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and the area was preserved for a technical examination.

The Health and Safety Authority and the local coroner have been informed of the incident.

The Athlone Road entering the town was closed for a time but has since reopened.
