A teenage boy has died after getting into difficulty in a Co Kildare canal over the weekend.

Gardaí said they became aware of someone who had got into difficulty in the water in the Grand Canal between Ardclough and Celbridge, at about 5.40pm on Saturday.

A number of emergency services attended the scene and the body of a boy in his teens was recovered from the water a short time later.

The coroner has been notified and an autospy will be carried out, gardaí said.
