Over €12m paid back to customers in Deposit Return Scheme

A record 806,000 transactions returning over 2.3m containers took place last Saturday.

Customers have been paid €12.3m for bringing back plastic bottles in the Deposit Return Scheme with volumes increasing steadily, government figures show.

More than 70.6 million empty containers have been returned by customers to date, Minister for the Circular Economy Ossian Smyth told the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment and Climate Action.
