Investigation launched after discovery of woman's body in canal in Co Monaghan

Gardaí are investigating following the discovery of a body in a canal in Co Monaghan on Sunday morning. 

The body of the woman, aged in her 20s, was recovered from the Ulster Canal in Monaghan town at around 8.30am. 

The woman's body has since been removed from the scene and taken to the mortuary at Our Lady's Hospital in Navan. 

A post-mortem examination has been carried out and the initial findings have been relayed to investigating gardaí.

A garda spokesperson added that the focus of the investigation will "now shift towards compiling a file for the coroner."
