Irish MEP and former Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald made clear her annoyance at the lack of inclusion of a consent-based definition of rape.

A bid to get a consent-based definition of rape admitted into Europe’s first-ever EU-wide laws around violence against women has failed.

There have been concerted moves over the past few months to overcome the legal argument that it does not fall under the banner of sexual exploitation.
