A Carlow crash that claimed the lives of three friends has been described as “one of the most severe and traumatic cases” that gardaí have ever seen.

Daryl Culbert (21) from Kiltegan in Wicklow; Michael Kelly (25) from Nurney, Co Carlow, and Katie Graham (19) from Arless, Co Laois, died when the red Lexus they were travelling in hit a tree just after 11.30pm on Wednesday night. A fourth person, a man in his early 20s from nearby Ballinabrannagh, was taken to hospital.
