More than half of prisoners in Ireland awaiting psychological or addiction support

About 7% of the total prison population are receiving treatment from the National Forensic Mental Health Service.

More than half of the Irish prison population is currently awaiting psychology or addiction services, with some waiting more than two years.

Some 1,804 people in custody are on the waiting list for psychology services, while a further 894 are on a waiting list to access addiction services.
