Two dead after separate road collisions in last 24 hours

Two people have been killed on our roads in the last 24 hours.

A man in his 40s died after the jeep he was driving was involved in a collision in Kildare.

GardaĂ­ attended the scene on the R448 at Halverstown at around 6.15pm on Saturday evening.

The man, who was the driver of the only vehicle involved in the collision, was pronounced dead at the scene.

 His body was removed to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital where a post mortem examination will take place in due course.

The road is currently closed pending a technical examination by garda forensics, and local diversions are in place.

GardaĂ­ in Naas are appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to this collision to contact them.

Any road users who were in the area on Saturday 13th January 2024 between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to make this available to investigating GardaĂ­.

Anyone with information in relation to this collision is asked to contact Naas Garda station on 045 884 300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Separately, a male pedestrian has died after he was hit by a car on the M1 Northbound near junction 5 in Lusk in Dublin.

No other injuries to persons have been reported.

The M1 Northbound from Junction 4 to Junction 5 is currently closed with local diversions in place. 

A technical examination by Garda forensics will be conducted.

GardaĂ­ are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the M1 Northbound between Junction 4 and 5 between 3:15am and 4:15am are asked to make this footage available to GardaĂ­.
