Female cyclist, 70s, dies following collision with car in Monaghan
The road is currently closed for an examination by forensic collision investigators and local diversions are in place.
A female cyclist, aged in her 70s, has died following a collision with a car on Saturday afternoon in Monaghan.
The collision occurred on Cootehill Road, close to Monaghan town at around 1:20pm.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body has been removed to Monaghan Hospital where an autopsy will take place.
The road is currently closed for an examination by forensic collision investigators and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: "Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), and who were travelling on Cootehill Road, Co. Monaghan, today, Saturday 21st October 2023, between 12.30pm and 1.30pm, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Monaghan Garda Station on 047 77200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
The woman became the 153rd person to die on Irish roads this year. Last year, 155 people died in total.
