Man, 50s, dies in collision involving car and motorcycle in Westmeath

A man is his 50s has died in a collision involving a motorcycle and a car in Westmeath on Monday evening.

The incident occurred on the N55 at Lissoy at around 5:40pm.

The motorcyclist was fatally injured in the collision. His body was removed to Midland Regional Hospital where an autopsy will take place. No other injuries were reported.

The road where the accident took place will remain closed overnight to traffic. Diversions are in place on the N55 between Athlone and Ballymahon.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will carry out an examination of the scene on Tuesday morning.

Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. 

Road users with camera/dash-cam footage, and who were travelling in the area at the time, are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.
