Funeral service of JP McManus' daughter-in-law Emma to take place in Barbados

A funeral service for Emma McManus, a daughter-in-law of Irish horse racing magnate JP McManus, who died suddenly in Barbados, is to take place on the Caribbean island next Friday, January 8.
The 40-year old mother of three, and daughter of former Irish tennis star and businessman Peter Ledbetter, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, at a medical centre after she had complained of feeling unwell.
Ms McManus, a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, had been preparing to celebrate New Yearâs Eve with loved ones at a private residence on the grounds of the luxury Sandy Lane resort, Barbados, which was purchased in the late 1990s by JP McManus, financier Dermot Desmond, and horse breeder John Magnier.
Ms McManus, late of London and Blackrock, Co Dublin, is survived by her husband John and their three âadoredâ young children, Milly, Lauren, and Annie, and âdeeply regretted by her heartbroken parents and parents-in-law, Peter and Paula, JP and Noreen, her grandmother Veronica, siblings Juliet, Katie and Nickâ, a funeral notice read.
A funeral service is scheduled to take place at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens, Barbados, on Friday January 8, at 10am local time (2pm Irish time).
Details of an online link to a live stream of the funeral service will be announced on Wednesday, January 6.
Ms McManusâs loved ones have requested âfamily flowers onlyâ, and asked that âmessages of sympathy may be expressed through cards and lettersâ which can be posted to Cross's Funeral Directors, 2 Lower Gerald Griffin St, Limerick.
No other details were released.
Royal Barbados Police are awaiting a postmortem to be carried out to determine the cause of death, however a police spokesman said they had ruled out foul play and were treating it as a sudden death.
Both the McManus and Ledbetter families had flown to the eastern Caribbean island to celebrate Christmas and New Yearâs Eve together, in what has been a long-standing family tradition.
JP McManus pulled his horses from all race meets for the foreseeable future. His racing manager, Frank Berry, told the
: "It's a very sad time for all the family. We're not going to have any runners for the next while."Jockey Mark Walsh said his âthoughts and prayersâ were with all of Ms McManusâs friends and family.
National Hunt owner and breeder Carl Hinchy tweeted: âThoughts very much with the McManus and Ledbetter families this morning after the shocking news reaching us. RIP Emma McManus.â
âEveryone is obviously devastated, itâs massively shocking,â said a source.
Ms McManus was âvibrant and outgoingâ and âvery well-liked by everyoneâ they added.
âWeâre especially heartbroken for John and the children, whatâs happened is every familyâs worst nightmare. John is a really compassionate guy, our hearts go out to him,â they said.
