Man arrested following fatal hit-and-run in Co Kildare

The injured woman was taken by ambulance to Naas General Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

A man has been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision that occurred in Kildare yesterday. 

A woman, 40s, was discovered with serious injuries on Thomas Street, Newbridge. 

Gardaí arrived at the scene shortly after 8pm last night.

It is understood the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

The injured woman was taken by ambulance to Naas General Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The man, 50s, is currently detained at Kildare Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí at Newbridge are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

They are particularly interested in speaking to any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), and were travelling in the area at the time.
