The sawn-off, double-barrel shotgun was hidden behind a water trough on private property.

Gardaí in Cork have discovered a shotgun hidden in a field.

The firearm was found in a field in Clogheen, Co. Cork at around 8.30am this morning.

The sawn-off, double-barrel shotgun was behind a water trough on private property.

It was confirmed safe by officers and brought to Gurranabraher Garda Station where they are following a definite line of inquiry.
