Billy Kelleher: Middle East peace plan a 'farce'

Ireland South MEP Billy Kelleher says the Middle East peace plan put forward by the US is a "farce" and simply won’t work.

MEPs are debating the proposal which foresees both a future Palestinian state and recognition of Israeli sovereignty over settlements in the West Bank.

The Palestinian leadership and the EU Foreign Policy Chief have both rejected the plan.

Fianna Fáil’s Billy Kelleher will speak at the debate:

"I'll be saying very clearly that the US in terms of being seen as an honest broker in Middle East negotiations between Israel and Palestine is a farce," he told EuroParlRadio.

"They are not honest brokers, there are very one-sided - they support the Israeli view on everything," he said, adding that there is a "systemic undermining of the Palestinian State".

"A two-State solution now is almost impossible to see working because the viability of the Palestinian State itself is under pressure," he added.
