Teen spotted in stolen car at 'McDonalds drive-thru', court hears

A 19-year-old Dublin man was spotted bringing a stolen car to a McDonalds “drive-thru” minutes after it was taken, a court has heard.

Thomas Green, with an address at La Touche Road, in Bluebell in Dublin was charged under the Road Traffic Act with theft of a car in the capital on October 8 last.

Judge Carol Anne Coolican at Dublin District Court was told a Peugeot car was stolen in Inchicore.

It was alleged 15 minutes later the youth was seen in the car on CCTV, “driving through McDonalds drive-thru on Kylemore Road”.

The vehicle was located about an hour later after it was involved in an incident in Bluebell where it had been driven through a front of a shop.

The court heard the defendant’s DNA was located on the steering wheel.

The Peugeot valued at about €10,000 was written off.

Judge Coolican said the injured party was left at a loss.

Defence solicitor Matthew Kenny told the court his client was not in a position to pay.

Judge Coolican refused jurisdiction meaning she believed the case should be sent forward to the circuit court which can impose tougher sanctions.

She sought directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions and remanded Mr Green on bail to appear again in October.

He was granted legal aid after the court heard he had no income.
