GSOC investigate after Garda accidentally shoots himself in the foot

A Garda has been treated in hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the foot.

The officer, who is specially trained in firearms, was injured by a single bullet in Limerick yesterday.

It is understood that the weapon discharged a single bullet accidentally while the officer was in a patrol car.

The garda is attached to specialist firearms unit.

GSOC, the Garda watchdog, has confirmed it has been asked to investigate.
