Four limestone statues which were stolen from Charleville in Co Cork in 2011 have been recovered by gardaí.

Two are statues of eagles mounted which had been mounted on 10ft high pillars and the others are life size busts of William of Orange and Oliver Cromwell.

They were stolen from Milltown Castle in July 2011.

Last week, a member of the public found all four statues near a derelict outhouse on lands near Cratloe, Co Clare.

Gardaí remembered the original theft and connected the discovery of the property with the theft.

The property was recovered by gardaí on February 8.

Gardai say the investigation continues.
