Three adults and 4-year-old rescued from water at Kinsale Harbour

A number of people, including a four-year-old child, had a lucky escape this afternoon after the boat they were in capsized.

The incident occurred just outside of Kinsale Harbour this afternoon.

The group of three adults and the young child were thankfully wearing life jackets when they were thrown into the sea as the boat capsized.

The motor cruiser was travelling from Cahersiveen marine to Dingle harbour when the engine caught fire.

Rescue 117, Valentia RNLI and Cork Sea Safari were all involved in the dramatic air rescue.

Cork Sea Safari gave special thanks to their skipper Billy who helped to rescue the four people from the waters.

West Cork Rapid Response said that it was a relief that the incident did not result in the loss of life.

Two of the casualties suffered smoke inhalation, one of which also had minor burns.

"We would remind anyone to ensure they always have a means for calling help if in difficulty or they see someone else in difficulty and to always were a lifejacket," said Valentia RNLI Coxswain John Patrick Murphy.

Elsewhere, the Dun Laoghaire RNLI has gone to the help of a man on board a stranded yacht off the County Wicklow coast.

It happened just a mile off Greystones.

The all-weather lifeboat was called to the aid of the 26-foot vessel following a report from the Irish Coast Guard

The crew of seven successfully towed the motor yacht and the skipper back safely to Greystones Harbour.
