Law firm warns against 'mob justice' saying 'vigilante law is bad law'

There are warnings that "mob rule justice" can prevent people being brought to justice through the judicial system.

Vigilante groups approaching suspected paedophiles are being cautioned that their interference can prevent cases being pursued and dealt with in the courts.

Dara Robinson from Specialist Criminal Law Firm, Sheehan and Partners, describes the impact vigilante groups and mob rule can have.

He said: "Vigilante law is bad law. I suppose the most dark case that springs to mind immediately is about a woman called Yvette Cloete, who was a trainee consultant paediatrician whose house in Wales was attacked in the year 2000 when the mob confused paediatrician and paedophile.

"That is a well-documented case and is not an urban myth."
