Irish households throw out €700 worth of food every year
Irish households throw out around €700 worth of food every year - that’s over one million tonnes of waste which goes to landfill.
The Environmental Protection Agency has launched an awareness campaign to help people to cut down on the amount of food they dump.
EPA scientist Odille LeBolloch says planning is key.
"Even if it’s just a simple ’see what you have in your cupboards and your fridge at home before you go shopping’ - have a shopping list and make sure you stick to it.
"Some people like to have a meal plan where you decided what you’re going to eat every day for the following week."
