An Taisce urges Heritage Minister to investigate conservation compliance at Trump International Doonbeg

An Taisce is calling on the Minister for Heritage to investigate Trump International Doonbeg to ensure it is in compliance with conservation conditions attached to its planning permission.

It follows yesterday's decision by Clare County Council allowing the resort to go ahead with controversial coastal protection works.

Details of the planning application became available on the Clare County Council website at 9am this morning.

Tony Lowes from the group 'Friends of the Irish Environment' said the decision must be appealed to An Bord Pleanala.

"The decision is almost impossible to understand. The experts that we have assembled who gave their advice to Clare County Council said that they had an absolute certainty that the proposed seawall could destroy the beach in front of them and will increase the rate of erosion on adjacent breaches," he said.

"The only question is timing. Will it happen in a few years or a decade or two?" he added.
