Nationwide fog warning lifted

Update 11.47am: A status orange weather warning for fog across the country has been lifted.

The warning had been initially in place until midnight tonight but has now been removed.

Earlier: There is a nationwide status orange fog warning in place today.

Met Éireann issued the warning which is valid until 11pm.

Fog has been reported so far this morning in many parts of Munster, Connacht and the midlands, according to AA Roadwatch.

Drivers are being warned to be cautious as dense fog may result in poor visibility and hazardous driving conditions.

It will be mainly dry and sunny today but becoming cloudy and dull later. Fog will linger in places.

Temperatures between 5 and 7 degrees, rising later in the day, according to the forecaster.

In terms of road conditions today, there are no further reports of ice affecting routes around Wicklow Town and Carrick-on-Shannon.

In Cork, a vehicle on fire just before the Dunkettle Interchange on the M8 Dublin Rd has crated heavy delays on approach.

"Take care as visibility may be affected by smoke in the area," AA Roadwatch said.
