Elderly Mother and Baby home survivors demand immediate apology and redress

Former residents of Mother and Baby homes say they want an immediate apology from the State.

They are angry about a one-year extension given to the Commission of Inquiry that is looking into abuses at the homes.

The survivors say the Government should begin a redress scheme and apologise to them before the investigation is completed.

"We need an immediate acknowledgment of what happened and an official apology and redress for an elderly survivor community, while there is still time," said Paul Redmond, a spokesperson for the Coalition of Mother And Baby Home Survivors.

"It's irrelevant whether this inquiry reports or not."
