Hate crime complaints filed over bonfires in the North

Hate Crime complaints have been filed over bonfires built in the North for the annual July 12 celebrations.

Sinn Féin member John Finucane, has said he has contacted the PSNI after his election posters were attached to one pile.

The fire service in the North has been kept busy overnight with over 100 call-outs in the last few hours.

The bonfires will be followed by dozens of parades this morning.

Ian Carlisle from the Grand Orange Lodge for Ireland is looking for tolerance from all.

"We are trying to rule out any anti-social activity that would make anyone feel unwelcome," he said.

"It's a public holiday, if it's not your thing, tolerate it, respect it and enjoy your day off but certainly anyone is more than welcome to come to the parade."

Yesterday, the son of the late Martin McGuinness called for an end to "displays of hate" at loyalist bonfires after a coffin bearing a picture of his father was placed on one in Belfast.

He tweeted: " I am very thankful that I was raised by parent's never to hate anyone or anything…"
